Wildlife photography can entail long periods just watching and waiting, but patience is often rewarded with the photo that you wanted. Often I use the Canon 30D with the 300mm F2.8 L USM IS Lens, the 0.6 crop on the sensor gives an effective focal length of  480mm, then add the 1.4 converter and we shoot up to an impressive 670mm at F3.6, but if using the 2.0 converter it extends the focal length to 960mm at F5.6. Enough for most purposes I think.
